A doll has to be something a child can love, another one of Kathe Kruse’s mantras. One hundred years later Kaethe Kruse dolls and toys are still
made by hand. Yet today the company has grown and the name Kathe Kruse is synonymous with
toys as well as children’s room accessories.
It's Christmas 1905 Three year old Mimerle wishes to have a little child, just like the one her mother is loving, pampering and bathing, just like her baby sister.
Her wish comes true. She receives the very first Kaethe Kruse doll "Oskar"! Made from a potato, a towel and some warm sand, his lifespan is a little short so Kathe Kruse sits down once again to create more wonderful dolls.
Five years later, Kathe Kruse participates in an exhibit called "Homemade Toys" in Berlin. She becomes an overnight success and revolutionizes the doll industry.
Nearly 100 years have passed since Kathe Kruse started her doll production. The Kathy Kruse Doll has numerous friends, doll-lovers and collectors varying from young to the not so young, all over the world.
Kathe Kruse Dolls - a German Legend
The Kathe Kruse Doll Studio is the oldest German doll company that is still existing and working in the traditional way. Handwork, simplicity of design, integrity, and an aversion to gimmicks and fads are still very much a part of how the dolls are made. Each doll and item of doll clothing is made by hand and takes from 16 to 36 hours to make. During that time, it will pass through the hands of 8 to 10 craftspeople and artists.
Kathe Kruse use fabrics and natural materials as much as possible when making
their popular dolls and toys. In addition to natural materials Kathe
Kruse use only fabrics awarded with the Oko-Tex certificate
(The Oeko-Tex system assures that textiles which have been
tested successfully and awarded a certificate are free of
concentrations of harmful substances which are detrimental
to health). The safe vinyl used for Kathe Kruse dolls are without nonyphenol and
phtalates - making them
very safe for your child.
Kathy's range of organic toys are all natural and unique in design. Kathy Kruse use only
natural materials from controlled, biological cultivation (KBA) such as cotton and sheep wool from controlled biological livestock (KBT).
